You released an LP almost exactly 12 months ago. Are there any plans for recording another?
I’m working on a number of new tracks, which I plan to release in an album format sometime in 2011. But there are no hurries. It won’t be a concept album like
Horror Disco was. There will be more singles and EP in the meantime. Some of those will be in collaboration with my Roman friends Rodion (Gomma) and Francisco (Pigna/2020). I’m currently in Ibiza working together with Rusty Egan (yes, that Rusty Egan) and Justus Köhncke of Kompakt fame, so you should expect something from this odd trio too.
You're an active seller on discogs. Where do you buy your records? You have quite a few rarities in your collection for sale.
That’s funny, I’m not so active. Basically, I'm just trying to keep my record shopping in a closed economy, as we all know how addictive vinyl shopping is. Also, I’m not really a collector or hoarder, so each and every record I own I would sell for the right price. Since if I sell a rare record for 100€ I can buy 100 records at flea markets. That’s where I do most if not all of my record digging.
How often do you play out in Venice?
Venice has no nightlife whatsoever – the few clubs were sadly all shut mainly due to noise problems and old people complaining – so I rarely play there unless it’s within a cultural event or festival like the Biennale or Film Festival or private parties being thrown in those occasions. I’m not at all bent that there’s little or nothing to do in Venice. I like my home and studio to be in a quite place, with small and supportive community. There are only 60,000 residents left in central Venice, where I live. I do enough clubbing when I travel to DJ and coming home to ghost town is a soothing experience.
This will be your first time touring Australia, right? Have you heard any reports back from your European DJ colleagues about the time they've spent here?
Yes it will be my Oz debut. I’ve been trying to go over there to play for a long time, and I’m stoked that it’s finally happening. All my DJ friends that have played there told me they had wild fun and an overall great time, so I expect nothing less. I have a few Australian friends that live in Europe, and they are true masters when it comes to party time.
Where are you off to once you finish your Australian dates? Asia?
Old continent! Most of my bookings are here. I hope to put together a small Asian tour next time around. Hook me up?
Finally, could we please grab your current top five?
I wish! I’m so moody when I make a chart, and I always regret it. I stopped doing those for now. But here are 5 records I’ve been listening to lately (not really a DJ chart I suppose):
Visage – Der Amboss (German version of The Anvil)
Hannuelauri – Supermonkey
Lucio Battisti – Cosa Succederà Alla Ragazza
Time & Space Machine – Set Phasers to Stun
Roberto Beltrami – Non Ti Drogare
