- The Fischerspooner member's first solo album is due out later this month.
Fischerspooner member Casey Spooner will release his first solo album later this month, entitled Adult Contemporary.
According to a press release, the album came together somewhat by accident. The original idea was for Spooner to contribute a song to a project by Jeff Saltzman, who produced Fischerspooner's 2009 album Entertainment. Spooner got carried away, and eventually came up with so much new material that Saltzman decided to hand over the reins entirely. The result is something much more personal and off-the-cuff than what Spooner would produce with his usual bandmate, Warren Fischer. "I was working in a very unselfconscious manner, as the sound and style were Jeff's initial direction," he says. Nonetheless, he says the record is "the most emotional work I may have ever made."
Adult Contemporary features guest appearances from performance artist Marina Abramovic, who contributes lyrics to "Spirit Cooking," and Scissor Sisters member Jay Shears, who co-wrote the track "Spanish Teenager." The latter tune came out this week as a single, complete with remixes from Derrick Carter and Acid Washed among others.
