- Aybee's Deeplak Recordings will release the Oakland artist's first album this month.
California beatsmith Afrikan Sciences has completed his debut album for Deepblak Recordings, entitled Means and Ways.
Afrikan Sciences has kept a pretty low profile so far, but he's received consistent support from Aybee, a fellow Oakland resident that has released music through Underground Quality and Further Records as well as his own Deepblak imprint. His sound is decidedly left field, made up of off-kilter rhythms simple drum sounds (the label describes it as "all things avant-garde/electronic and soul," which is about as close as you can get). The 11-track album will greatly increase Afrikan Science's catalog: to date he's put out just a handful of tracks and a few collaborations with Aybee (including vocal appearances on his first album, East Oakland Space Program). It comes out next week on vinyl, and is already available digitally through Deepblak's website.
Have a look at this video for "NanRock Skank" to get a feel for the album. You can also download the track "Chin Checkers" for free on the Afrikan Science's Soundcloud page.
