- Due to the unstable situation in Japan, this year's program will take place in Spain.
Following last month's decision to relocate from Tokyo, Red Bull Music Academy have announced that this year's program will take place in Madrid.
The venue for this year's RBMA is Matadero Madrid, a massive former slaughterhouse that's being converted to a cultural center. As a result of the change in plans, the application due date has been pushed back to April 26th. Aside from that and the new location, all other details remain unchanged.
In a statement sent out yesterday, RBMA coupled the announcement of their new location with a word about their decision to relocate from Tokyo. "When the terrible events of March 11 struck in North East Japan, [RBMA] had to make a timely decision about a potential relocation, and it quickly became apparent that going forward with these plans in Tokyo right now would not be possible. Furthermore they received a lot of cancellations from people who had already applied. The very same goes for artists who were requested to lecture and perform in Tokyo. These are the people who make the event what it is, and their current concerns had to be respected."
