  • The six month-old Bottom Floor party will host Kai Alce at Bar Pico in Santa Monica on Thursday, June 30th. Originally from New York, Alce has been involved in house music for over two decades. In the late 1980's he moved to Detroit, where as a teenager he got to see the likes of Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson in action at the legendary Music Institute. Alce still spins occasionally in the Motor City and collaborates with Omar S on the FXHE label, but now he calls Atlanta home and releases his deep house records primarily through his own NDATL Muzik imprint. His set at Bar Pico will mark his first LA-area appearance in more than 10 years. It will also be the 25th Bottom Floor party, which is transitioning from a weekly local event (hosting John Tejada and Santiago Salazar, among others) to a monthly shindig with more out-of-town talent. Bottom Floor founder and resident DJ Morgan Alexander will lend support on the night, and guests looking to dance for a good cause should take note: a portion of the cover charge will go to NextAid, a charity helping vulnerable young people in Africa.
