- Warp is set release the duo's first artist album in eight years.
Warp Records have revealed details for the next album by Plaid, entitled Scintilli.
The record will be Andy Turner and Ed Handley's first proper album since 2003's Spokes—since then they've made soundtracks for the Michael Arias films Heaven's Door and Tekkonkinkreet, and collaborated with the artist Bob Jaroc for an audio-visual project called Greedy Baby. The new album's Latin title roughly translates to "I Am Many Sparks," a mantra the duo allegedly chant to themselves for two hours every morning before entering the studio. No word yet on the album's style overall, but the video for "35 Summers" shows them at their most abstract.
A limited edition of Scinitili CDs will be packaged in a Muda na Mono puzzle box, which has to be assembled correctly in order for the track titles to be legible. According to a press release, this packaging "reflects a desire to give the CD an ornamental function, beyond its one use as a basic storage device for music." For less patient fans, the album will be also available digitally and on CD and vinyl.
Plaid will support their new album with an extensive tour of Europe and North America, beginning in Amsterdam on October 1st and wrapping up nearly two months later in Los Angeles.
