- Sepalcure, Starkey and others feature on Frite Nite's North American bass compilation.
The San Francisco-based Frite Nite crew will issue their latest compilation, Surreal Estate, in October, exposing established and rising North American bass artists.
Producer, DJ and core member of the Frite Nite collective Ana Sia has compiled the Bay Area bass merchants' 13th catalogue release, which features a mixture of exclusive tracks from fellow underground cohorts. The "bleeding-edge" selection traverses footwork, spacey bass-driven house, funky and UK-centric dubstep from established artists such as Travis Stewart (Machinedrum) and Praveen Sharma's Sepalcure project and Planet Mu stalwart Starkey, alongside breakthrough acts like Boston-based juke producer Wheez-ie and Distal—head of the fledgling Embassy Recordings stable.
Naturally a number of local San Francisco artists also make the album and include dubstep name DJG and "deep rave" act Ghosts on Tape, backed by efforts from Frite Nite members—Comma, B. Bravo, Epcot, Eprom, NastyNasty, Quitter and label head Salva—plus a few undiscovered talents as well.
Surreal Estate will be released as a mixed CD and as an unmixed six-track 12-inch vinyl EP, with all individual tracks being made available for digital download. The album artwork has been designed by Swedish artist Kilian Eng, also known for his work for Low Limit and Lando Kal's Lazer Sword outfit.
