  • echospace [detroit] will release two limited edition albums this week: FallingStars by Variant (AKA Stephen Hitchell) and The Motor City Matrix by Sons of the Dragon. Hitchell is a prolific dub techno artist, though you may know him better as Intrusion, or as half of Echospace and cv313, his duos with Rod Modell, AKA DeepChord. (If none of those ring a bell, there's also Soultek, Phase90, Radius and probably a few others). Variant is the name he uses for his ambient work. FallingStars features two lengthy tracks—one clocks in at 25 minutes, the other at just under an hour. Like Hitchell, Sons of the Dragon regulars on echospace [detroit]. The mysterious duo allegedly includes one Motor City native and one artist from "elsewhere," though their exact identities are kept under wraps. The Motor City Matrix combines the tracks from their 2009 album Orbiting Planet Arp with two new recordings: a cv313 "Live Reduction" of "The Evolution of San Mi" and a live version of the title track, recorded at DEMF in 2002. Both releases will be available on CD in limited runs of 100. Tracklists Variant: FallingStars 01. Falling Stars (Reprise) 02. The Setting Sun (Reprise) Sons of the Dragon: The Motor City Matrix 01.
