  • Anti-GEMA demonstrations will take place in ten cities across Germany this Thursday, September 6th. Naturally, all of the events will be protesting the German PRO's new tariff system, which was introduced in April of this year and would increase annual fees for many clubs' by as much as 1,400%, forcing many clubs to close. Partly in response to the public reaction to the new tariffs, GEMA announced a few revisions over the summer, though none that would lessen their impact in any substantial way. The protests are organized by a variety of organizations, including Club Commission, Kultur Retten, Fair Play (who have organized past events in Berlin), and Germany's Pirate Party. What's likely to be the biggest event will take place in Berlin, with a rally outside GEMA's office at 2:00 PM, followed by a march down Kurfürstendamm to Wittenbergplatz, wrapping up at 10:00 PM. You can find links to Facebook pages for all of the anti-GEMA demonstrations over on the Berghain website. If you haven't already, you can sign a petition to prevent the new tariff system here.
