We take a look at what's happening around the harbour city for New Year's.
Every year Sydney attracts plenty of overseas and local talent to soundtrack New Year's Eve, and this year is no different. From the afternoon of the 31st to late the next evening, celebrations will take over the city, be it on boats, at festivals or in clubs.
If you're looking to get started early on NYE, the Bare Essentials crew will be hosting a party on the roof of Sweeney's Hotel in the CBD that runs from 3:00 PM right through until the early hours of 2013 with a secret international guest and a big cast of residents, including Carlos Zarate, Garry Todd and Sam Roberts. FACT will be on the rooftop too with their Mobilee showcase at the Museum of Contemporary Art, which kicks off at 6:00 PM. Martin Landsky and And.Id will headline that one, with Javi Sampol and Roberto Martin also confirmed. Boom Boom will be taking over an unannounced underground Sydney CBD venue with Detroit mainstay Marcellus Pittman and the Paradise Lost Crew, from 6 till 6.
For those keen to escape the mayhem around the harbour, S.A.S.H. will be hosting Crosstown Rebels' Russ Yallop and Spanish live duo Pig & Dan at their usual spot, The Abercrombie Hotel. Sydney clubbing institution Mad Racket will be keeping things local with Picnic boss Kali and Peret Mako at the Marrickville Recreation Centre, while just nearby, Modular duo Canyons will host a Hole in the Sky warehouse party with ESP Institute boss Lovefingers.
Just before sunrise, The Bella Vista will begin boarding from Star City Wharf for Spice Afloat, with Tiger & Woods and Diynamic Music staple H.O.S.H. manning the decks. Soon after, Field Day 2013 commences at The Domain with a diverse lineup that includes SBTRKT, Disclosure and Booka Shade all playing live; Maya Jane Coles, Danny Daze, Hudson Mohawke and Jesse Rose will DJ.
The Greenwood Hotel will open its courtyard at midday for another Space Ibiza NYD event, this time headlined by deep house luminary Kerri Chandler and Detroit techno legend Carl Craig. Mathew Jonson, Pig & Dan and Franck Roger will also be joining the bill as the party carries on through until 11:00 PM. Meanwhile, at The Ivy Pool, UK duo Infinity Ink will spearhead a Hot Creations pool party, with Crosstown Rebels artist Russ Yallop making a second appearance alongside Sydney jocks Brohn, Ben Ashton and T-Boy.
Back at The Abercrombie Hotel, Strange Fruit and Disconnected will team up to present a show from 12:00 PM with Luke Slater performing live as Planetary Assault Systems, again with an extensive local lineup that includes names like Defined By Rhythm, Trinity, Jamie Lloyd and Marcotix. Soul of Sydney will be taking over an inner-city open air venue with their usual blend of funk, soul, house and disco, while DigDeep have booked The Nextmen at Red Bull HQ over in Alexandria from 3:00 PM.
