The understated Berlin venue shut abruptly this week.
Rumors of the club's closure have been circulating since Monday, and earlier today the management confirmed the news in a long and somewhat lyrical written statement, which blames "a long and tiring battle against the windmills of money." It claims that although things were beginning to improve, the owner of the property pulled the plug on them anyway. Everything inside the club was completely dismantled and moved out on Wednesday morning. Sam Shackleton, who kept his studio "in the depths of the cellar," was also forced to move out.
Horst Krzbrg opened four years ago, and went on to become one of the most musically adventurous venues in Berlin. Its interior was simple—one medium-sized dance floor, a bar, a small couch area—and its programming was diverse: their guests in the past few months included Paul Woolford, Objekt, Brandt Brauer Frick and the Sex Tags Mania crew. Horst was also the home to the Sunday evening Wax Treatment parties, which have become a cult fixture of Berlin's clubbing landscape. It will be missed.
