- L.I.E.S.'s latest mystery man will debut on double vinyl this June.
The first release from Gunnar Haslam, a double LP called Mimesiak, is due out on L.I.E.S. this June.
Ron Morelli's Brooklyn-based label has a history of introducing the world to unknown producers. (Names like Terekke, Jahiliyya Fields, Svengalisghost and Florian Kupfer all spring to mind.) Haslam—with no Discogs page, no tracks on his SoundCloud account and as of this writing one sole "like" on his Facebook page—seems like an outsider even by this label's standards. The album's ten tracks, with titles ranging from Brooklyn shoutouts ("B61," "Culver Viaduct") to references we can't quite crack ("Mark And Don," "Cat Superhighway"), are made up of appropriately mysterious and weather-worn electronic music.
We contacted Morelli for more information about the project, and all he'd let on is that Haslam is "an unknown NYC producer and this is his first release... Other than that I'm keeping it under wraps." Get a feel for the release yourself over on L.I.E.S.'s SoundCloud, where they've posted the album cut "Billowing Black Cloud."
