Chris Madak, AKA Bee Mask, will play a free show in Chicago this Saturday.
It'll be Madak's first appearance in the Windy City since 2011. In the meantime, the Philadelphia-based experimentalist has seen his international profile rise thanks in no small part to his continued connection with Spectrum Spools, which resulted in the When We Were Eating Unripe Pears LP in late 2012—and last year's album by Italian favorite Donato Dozzy, which was built from remixes of his track "Vaporware." More recently, Madak has started a new label, Pear Growers' Series, and on the performance front, this week he's due to appear in London and Berlin (at Berghain during CTM) before returning to the US.
Madak will bring his cerebral synth soundscapes to the Graham Foundation's Madlener House in Chicago's Gold Coast neighbourhood. The show will be jointly hosted with another local arts organization, Lampo, and admission is free with an RSVP.
Looking further ahead in February, Madak will travel to Brooklyn on the 6th for a set at ISSUE Project Room (fellow Spectrum Spools affiliate Fabric is also billed at that one), before flying west for an event on the 27th at the Academy of Science in San Francisco, presented with Icee Hot.
