  • Gardland will follow up last year's Syndrome Syndrome album with a new EP called Improvisations. Australian duo Alex Murray and Mark Smith released Syndrome Syndrome back in October 2013. It was a record with a "stoic disposition, dystopian atmosphere and [an] emphasis on hardware," according to RA's Andrew Ryce. That emphasis on hardware is central to Gardland's style: the pair eschew computers in favour of crafting improvised sounds with machines. According to RVNG Intl., Improvisations comprises "three live performances ripped from local Australian radio in early 2012." It was these performances that alerted RVNG founder Matt Werth to Gardland in the first place, and though the recordings weren't intended for consumption beyond "provincial FM dial riders," the label promises a record that "blisters at its hardware-imposed limits with enough energy to fuel freakish frequencies." The duo have a couple of live European dates in the works. A slot at Austria's Donau festival on April 30th will be followed by Melt festival in Germany on July 18th.
