Both the Berghain and Panorama Bar mixes will be released for free online from July.
Last week the German label announced that it would no longer be releasing its mixes on CD. (They aren't dispensing with CDs altogether: they'll still release artist albums on the format.) RA's piece on the future of mix CDs, published today, reveals that Ostgut Ton will now release a few online mixes a year, "heavy on exclusives and released infrequently enough to keep them special." The piece adds: "They'll be offered as free downloads, with a licensing policy that requests the rights to a song at no cost for a period of three years. It's a clever solution that also takes the money out of the equation entirely, making the product a labour of love (and a handy promotional item) rather than something to make a buck from."
