- A fat-sounding mono synth with a similar look to the company's flagship Prophet 12, Smith's latest is set for release in July.
The Pro 2 is the latest synthesizer from Dave Smith Instruments.
The company's last big release was the beastly 12-voice Prophet 12. The Pro 2 has a similar aesthetic—wood, black and red—and a three-and-a-half octave semi-weighted keyboard, but it's a very different piece of kit. It's a mono synth with four digital oscillators and a sub-oscillator (though its "paraphonic" design means you can control each of the oscillators separately and play up to four notes at once), with lots of options for modulation. It boasts dual filters that can work either in serial or parallel configurations, four delays (including a digital bucket-brigade delay), loopable envelope generators, syncable LFOs, a sixteen-slot modulation matrix and an arpeggiator.
It's also got a suite of "character" effects like from bit- and sample-rate reduction to tape saturation. The sequencer has up to 32 steps and 16 tracks, with the ability to input steps in real time. Music Radar reports that the synth is set for release in July, and that we can expect confirmation of the price then. Dave Smith Instruments will release the Pro 2 in July 2014.
