Kerri Chandler, Mathew Jonson and Ben UFO vs DJ Nobu are some of the highlights from this year's programme.
The programme for this year's Red Bull Music Academy in Tokyo has been announced.
The 2014 Academy will run for a month from October 12th in the Japanese capital and, as usual, a wide range of artists and industry professionals will be appearing for performances, workshops and exhibitions. Kerri Chandler will kick things off on October 12th with a set at AIR, while other DJ highlights include Ben UFO and DJ Nobu teaming up for a night of vinyl appreciation on November 4th, dubstep pioneer Mala spinning at ZaHOUSE along with local bass head Goth-Trad on October 18th, and two days of EMAF at Liquidroom with Luke Vibert, Lone, Untold, Addison Groove and Holly Herndon all hitting the stage.
Live performances come from Mathew Jonson, who will be joined on November 2nd by BBC selector Benji B, as well as Austrian experimentalist Dorian Concept, who will be playing at WWW on October 16th. A couple of hip-hop nights will thrown into the mix—one featuring DJ Krush, the other with Just Blaze and Zebra Katz—plus Kiwi dub legends Fat Freddy's Drop are billed with London veteran Jah Shaka at Unit.
Talks will be given by VJ and composer Daito Manabe and soundtrack artist Otomo Yoshihide, and Ryoji Ikeda will have an audio-visual exhibition "Test Pattern [No 6]" showing at Tokyo gallery Spiral from November 5th through 9th.
