- The Japanese producer has opened up her own label with a limited cassette release called Newmud.
Japanese artist Akiko Kiyama's new label, Kebko Music, is now underway.
Known primarily for a playful, trippy style of minimalist house and techno, Kiyama has some two dozen releases to her name, including appearances on international imprints like Thema, Lick My Deck, op.disc and Tape Hiss. Kebko Music looks to have her veering away from the dance floor and focused specifically on releasing more abstract sounds on limited, handcrafted runs of cassette tapes. Its first transmission is from Kiyama herself: Newmud, a five-track tape featuring vocal contributions from Lisokot, AKA Varya Pavlova, who's previously worked with Kiyama. Out now, having seen initial release in Japan a couple weeks ago, Newmud is available in an edition of just 100 copies. You can try out some samples below.
