- The New York label will revisit Kerry Leimer's archive with a second retrospective arriving this September.
RVNG has announced details of Artificial Dance, a compilation of Kerry Leimer's music as Savant.
Matt Werth's label first shone light on Leimer with 2014's A Period Of Review (Original Recordings: 1975-1983). Due out September 4th, Artificial Dance collects music from Leimer's Savant project, an experimental band he cobbled together from different members of Seattle's 1980s post-punk scene. In addition to some unreleased tracks, it features compositions from 1983 album The Neo Realist (At Risk), a Savant 12-inch and other compilation pieces.
"Savant would have no fixed lineup and often musicians would be asked to play instruments far outside their forté," RVNG say. "Leimer would however give loose rhythmic direction for the musicians to develop spontaneously against click-tracks. When the performance locked in with Leimer listening at the controls, he'd capture it to tape."
Sonically, you can expect a sound collage style reminiscent of Brian Eno and David Byrne's My Life In The Bush Of Ghosts. The compilation comes with liner notes and artist interviews compiled by Aaron Leitko, AKA one half of Future Times outfit Protect-U. It'll be available on double-vinyl, CD and digital formats.
