  • Westminster City Council have announced they will not renew the license for one of London’s most famous nightclubs at the end of the year. A pioneering establishment, The Hippodrome, which played host to Frank Sinatra and Judy Garland, before 1983 when purchased by Peter Stringfellow and turned into a nightclub attracting the likes of Freddie Mercury and Gary Glitter. The renewal application has been turned down on the basis of public safety concerns especially the anti-social behavior associated with the venue, both inside and outside the club. The Hippodrome has 21 days to appeal the decision, but with the local council trying desperately to encourage family visitation to the area it doesn’t look good for one of the nightclubs which has been synonymous with London’s Leicester square. most famous nightclub faces closure by the end of the year after the local council refused to renew its license.
