- The long-running HQ of Cream will shut at the end of 2015, with a new "subterranean music venue" taking its place.
Liverpool's Nation will close at the end of 2015, making way for a new music venue.
Nation has been the home of iconic clubnight Cream since 1992. A £40m development spearheaded by The Elliot Group at the Wolstenholme Square site, designed by Liverpool architects Falconer Chester Hall, has received planning approval. According to Cream, the new development comprises "new buildings ranging up to 10 storeys, a new passageway through to Wolstenholme Square to Seel Street, as well as ground floor commercial space for cafés, restaurants, shops" and a new home for the club. They say the new spot will feature "state of the art sound," with a multi-room layout that can be tweaked to create one large space that "offers better production and broadens its appeal to attract and become an exciting new live music venue for the city."
A Cream spokesperson said: "The Elliot Group have taken on board the importance of retaining the cultural and musical hub that Wolstenholme Square offers and our ideas and ethos for the new venue. Ourselves and the thousands of people who have passed through Nation's doors hold a deep attachment to the venue and what it stands for and the plans present us with an incredible opportunity to create an exciting new music venue for the city." The final Cream party at Nation will take place on Boxing Day 2015.
