- A limited-edition, AIRA-styled update of the Reon synth has just shown up on music equipment retail sites.
Roland has a new analog synthesizer on the market.
The synth is the Driftbox-R Limited, and with its black and neon-green accents, it looks like the latest device in the Japanese company's dance music-oriented AIRA line. All of that is true, but geeks will note that the Driftbox-R was originally released as a small-format synth from the much-smaller Japanese manufacturer Reon. According to retailers like Sweetwater and SchneidersLaden, where this new Driftbox appeared without a formal announcement from Roland, the synth is a limited-edition update of the original. It features two VCOs, a filter and envelope generator and CV/gate. Synthtopia says Roland commissioned it to show off their SBX-1 Sync Box, the AIRA line's hub for wrangling devices using a range of disparate syncing methods.
The Driftbox-R Limited is now available from Roland and Reon for a suggested retail price of $499.
