The 75-minute Muscle Up compilation gathers more unheard material from the Fox Studio vaults.
Cowley is best known for his work with angel-voiced San Francisco hi-NRG legend Sylvester as well as his own early '80s hits "Menergy" and "Megatron Man." In 1979, Cowley was contacted by John Coletti, owner of LA-based gay porn company Fox Studio. Coletti asked him to soundtrack some of his films, and Cowley responded in kind, sending synthesizer recordings made during his time at City College of San Francisco, where he co-founded the Electronic Music Lab.
These recordings follow Dark Entries' well-received 2013 collection of Cowley porn soundtracks, School Daze. The label says the recordings are "influenced by Tomita, Wendy Carlos, and Giorgio Moroder," transporting the the listener to "a world of forbidden vices evocative of Patrick's time spent in the bathhouses of San Francisco."
On October 19th, the relaunched Honey Soundsystem imprint will release Cowley's Kickin' In 12-inch. The disco EP, anchored by the epic 12-minute title track, was found in the basement of Megatone Records boss John Hedges, the same dusty room where Dark Entries boss (and Honey Soundsystem member) Josh Cheon first discovered the reel-to-reels containing the gay porn soundtracks. Cowley worked on Kickin In' in 1978, and the press release says "the song encapsulates the Hi-NRG dance music that Patrick became known for."
The two tracks on the b-side were made in collaboration Cowley's with college classmate Maurice Tani and feature the his narration of gay sex fantasies "inspired by San Francisco’s leather bars, back rooms and bathhouses."
