  • The Vancouver New Music Festival, subtitled Nomadic Streams, will go down next week from October 22nd through 24th. Focusing on ambient music, the three-night festival will take place at the new location of VIVO Media Arts on Kaslo Street in East Vancouver. Among the highlights are local stalwart Loscil, New York-based Seattleite Rafael Anton Irisarri (who also produces as The Sight Below), Room40 head Lawrence English and illbient pioneer DJ Olive. The FLUX Quartet will perform Morton Feldman's "String Quartet No. 1," and they'll be joined by a cast of other festival artists for a rendition of John Cage's "Four." In addition to the main programming, there will be a Steve Roden exhibit ongoing until October 23rd at the Canadian Music Centre's BC Creative Hub on Davie Street, a lecture from Roden at Goldcorp Centre For The Arts at SFU Downtown, a Pete Namlook listening room at VIVO highlighting the legendary artist and a pre-festival show featuring the Vancouver Electronic Ensemble this coming Saturday at VCC's East Broadway campus. For more information on those, check out the festival's website.
