Make Noise has released a new Eurorack modular system, the System Cartesian.
The system aims to integrate two schools of synthesis: East Coast synthesis, a subtractive method popularised by Moog, and West Coast synthesis, an additive signal path associated with Buchla and Serge systems. Housed in a powered skiff case, the system is based around two oscillators, the STO and tELEHARMONIC modules, which can be sequenced by the René module and shaped by envelope generators like Maths and Wogglebug.
The announcement bolsters Make Noise's line of self-contained systems aimed at providing users with an all-in-one access point to modular synthesis without the need for external controllers or interfaces. Such setups are becoming more prominent in dance music circles and more announcements of modular gear are expected at next week's NAMM conference in Anaheim.
