- No Mercy Bad Poet is out in April.
Gobby will release an album via DFA on April 1st.
No Mercy Bad Poet marks the quirky New Yorker's first release for the label, following a history of releasing for UNO NYC (plus a few self-released bits and some music on 1080p). He's become well-known for a scattershot and unpredictable sound that encompasses lo-fi techno, noise and sound collage, all of which come together for No Mercy Bad Poet, according to the label. "Clipped vocal samples," "safari of animal samples," "straight-up synth pop" and "undulating kick drum" are some of the phrases they use to describe the album, noting that closing track "Romance Frog" is a three-part suite. (You can watch the video for it over at Bandcamp.)
In addition to his solo material, Gobby has worked with Mykki Blanco, and with James K in the band SETH, in the past. This is his first release of 2016. For more on Gobby and his history, check out our feature from last year here.
