  • Optimo Music will re-release Disconnection's Bali Ha'i 12-inch on June 3rd. Bali Ha'i was originally issued in 1982 via Y Records, the UK post-punk label that also worked with The Slits and The Pop Group. This release, however, would be immediately recognizable to fans of musical theater, being an out-there cover of the famous tune from Rodgers and Hammerstein's South Pacific. The song appeared on Swedish digger Lexx's 2012 collection, Originals Volume Eight—a prescient compilation that also featured cuts from Mariah and Soichi Terada. Juno Plus reports Bali Ha'i fits into Optimo Music's Disco Plate series. The EP follows another serious foray into UK post-punk, last year's [Cease & Desist] DIY! (Cult Classics From The Post-Punk Era 1978-82), a set of obscurities which landed JD Twitch aka Keith McIvor's label in hot water with Sony. Listen to clips of Bali Ha'i below.
