  • Coachella will unveil 360-degree live streaming and spatial audio technology for their second weekend. YouTube will begin supporting the new, panoramic streaming function in time for this weekend's festivities. The company began hosting 360-degree videos a year ago, but this is the first time the format will be available in real time. They're also rolling out spatial audio for on-demand YouTube videos. It will allow streamers to "listen along as you do in real life, where depth, distance and intensity all play a role." YouTube is working with companies like VideoStitch and Two Big Ears to make their software compatible with 360-degree streaming. "What excites me most about 360-degree storytelling is that it lets us open up the world's experiences to everyone," says Neal Mohan, YouTube's Chief Product Officer. For example: "Students can now experience news events in the classroom as they unfold. Travelers can experience faraway sites… all without the physical constraints of the real world." Check out one of Coachella's 360-degree preview clips for an idea of what it looks like.
