  • Nils Frahm has released details of two forthcoming projects: a new book titled Sheets Zwei, and a score for a short film starring US actor Robert De Niro. Sheets Zwei is the follow-up to 2013's Sheet Eins, pulling together a mix of sheet music, photography and diagrams on how to prepare your piano to create Frahm's signature "Una Corda" sound. His father, Klaus Frahm, contributed the photos. A digital download of the music transcribed in the book is also included in the cost. It'll hit shops next month. Frahm's latest musical project is a collaboration with French multi-disciplinarian Yoann Lemoine, AKA Woodkid, due out on Erased Tapes in July. The pair have scored ELLIS, a short film directed by mysterious French director JR that tells the story of a US migrant (De Niro) revisiting New York's former immigrant inspection station at Ellis Island. Frahm performed and recorded both pieces—"Winter Morning I" and "Winter Morning II"—at his Berlin studio last summer. De Niro's voice features on the B-side. "Robert says it all in 17 minutes," said Frahm. "We are not facing a refugee crisis. We are facing a crisis because we do not embrace, we do not sympathise and we cannot give up fear. Art can encourage so I hope this project will help fight the fear in all of us." Frahm will screen the film on Saturday, July 2nd, at London's Barbican as part of a weekend-long event he's curated.
