  • Finnish experimental producer Ilpo Väisänen, formerly of the legendary duo Pan Sonic, has a new album on the way. Solo works from Väisänen have been pretty scarce over the years, and Syntetisaattori Musiikkia Kuopiosta will be just the second album he's crafted under his own name, after 2001's Mego-issued Asuma. (He also released a full-length through Editions Mego last year, using the alias I-LP-O In Dub.) This one has him linking up again with Kvitnu, a Ukrainian-born label now based in Vienna. Kvitnu hosted Väisänen and Mika Vainio for a Pan Sonic performance in Kiev in 2009, and released a recording of that show, with the title Oksastus, in 2014. Due out in early October, Syntetisaattori Musiikkia Kuopiosta is, according to the label, "strongly connected to the place where it was written and recorded: Kuopio." It's described as "not a long album," comprising nine "very varied and rather short" tracks connected without gaps, and it'll come on limited-edition 12-inch vinyl in a sleeve with artwork using "special elements," as usual for Kvitnu. Väisänen and Vainio's Pan Sonic project is now inactive, but their Atomin Paluu documentary soundtrack, initially recorded years ago, is getting an LP release on Blast First Petite this summer. Kvitnu, meanwhile, put out in June an album, Cura, from label regulars Sturqen. Preview Syntetisaattori Musiikkia Kuopiosta's opening track.
