- The abandoned factory's developer has announced plans for a techno club, spa, hostel and artists building.
Tresor owner Dimitri Hegemann is looking at the abandoned Packard Plant as the potential site for a new Detroit techno club, the Detroit Free Press reports.
Real estate developer Fernando Palazuelo, director of the firm Arte Express Detroit, purchased the sprawling factory complex for $405,000 in late 2013. The firm has appealed to the Detroit City Council for a tax-free plan that would help cover the first phase of the Packard Plant renovation, which could take between 10 to 15 years in total.
Arte Express Detroit has also provided a breakdown of the development plans, which will require an estimated $400 million to $500 million that Palazuelo is still assembling. The plans include a techno club, hostel and spa, as well as a building for artist studios and a "recreational complex with a racing component."
The techno club, which would be overseen by Hegemann, is part of the fourth phase of the renovation proposal. It would be located on the ground floor of a seven-story building.
This isn't the first time Hegemann has expressed interest in opening a club in the birthplace of techno. Back in 2014, he revealed plans for a "cavernous single-room center for alternative culture" in the city.
