- The UK bass adventurer's next LP arrives on Hyperdub in October under his [Hi-Emotions] guise.
DVA will return to Hyperdub in October with an album as DVA [Hi:Emotions] called NOTU_URONLINEU.
Leon Smart, also known as Scratcha DVA, is one of Hyperdub's key producers. He's released a full-length and several high-profile singles on the London outlet since debuting on it in 2010, and is now back with his second LP. NOTU_URONLINEU arrives more than four years on from the former Rinse FM breakfast show host's Pretty Ugly, which saw him traverse house, UK bass and hip-hop across 12 tracks.
Due out on October 7th, the sound on NOTU_URONLINEU is, according to the label, a touch darker than much of Smart's work—which could be explained by the conditions in which the producer recorded tracks on the record. "I realised before
making this album I was most happiest when listening to music in the dark like I did when I was at school," Smart says. "So I decided to record the whole album in the dark too."
