Dark Entries has five new 12-inches on the way this month.
The San Francisco label has put out 24 records so far in 2016, from the likes of Frak, Bill Converse and its Italo-focused Editions Series. Most of the August releases fit into that series, starting out with two 12-inches from the production duo Gianluigi "Gigi" Farina and Francesco Rago. Life With You is Farina and Rago's first composition. Recorded in Milan in 1981, the 16-year-old Xenia Monnerat wrote the lyrics. She also penned lyrics for Rago and Farina's 1982 release as Wanexa, The Man From Colours.
There's a Chicago connection with the next Dark Entries Editions 12-inch, Jago's I'm Going To Go. Jago, led by Michele Violante, recorded "I'm Going To Go" in Milan in 1983. The A-side became a NYC hit after Larry Levan played it at the Paradise Garage. Levan would ask Frankie Knuckles to remix the tune. The eight-minute dub was Knuckles' first released retouch.
Though Zwischenfall was a Belgian trio comprising Michael Sass, Martin Urban and Stephan Kraemer, their music came out as a joint release on Italo label Fuzz Dance and the singular Les Disques Du Crepuscule. The group originally caught the ear of Patrick Codenys of Front 242, and they'd record their first EP, Heute, in that group's studio. In 1984, Urban left the band and was replaced by vocalist Iben Larssen and bassist Thomas Kürsten and Zwischenfall would record its second single, Sandy Eyes, the final Dark Entries Edition re-release for August. The label also has one record coming this month that doesn't fit into its Editions series. The Pool's Dance It Down / Jamaica Running is an American oddity, the brainchild of Texas native Patrick Keel. As Dark Entries puts it, "The Pool's spartan, self-assured songs are experiments you can dance to."
