  • After his directorial debut at a Sundance event in LA over the weekend, Flying Lotus has hinted at further forays into the film world via Twitter. This past weekend, Flying Lotus (real name Steven Ellison) premiered Royal, a short film he directed, at a Sundance NEXT FEST event at the Ace Hotel Theater in downtown LA. That piece, which FlyLo previously described as "an awkward love story that's definitely not for the kiddies," is apparently just the start of Ellison's filmmaking career. Following the premiere, which saw barf bags distributed to audience members, FlyLo took to Twitter to reveal his new ambitions. Pitchfork reported on the string of Monday morning tweets. He started off saying "I lied .. Royal is just one piece of first my feature film called Kuso been steady filming low key this year with some talented folks." He would follow-up with a tweet saying the feature-length Kuso is about 65 percent complete, and that "the music is 'getting there' as well." After putting out an open call for LA-based assistance, Ellison hinted at some big-name involvement with the project, including Aphex Twin, Thundercat and Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka. In addition to running the Brainfeeder imprint, Ellison releases music on Warp Records, the longtime home of Richard D. James' Aphex Twin project.
