  • Soul Jazz Records has released a compilation of rare Nigerian soul tunes. The collection compiles '70s boogie, soul and funk from the West African country. Though some artists on the collection, like Tee Mac, Christy Essien and Orlando Julius collaborator Joni Haastrup, are known in Afrobeat circles, many of the acts on Nigeria Soul Fever! are nearly unheard of outside of the country. That's in large part due to the Nigerian trade restriction of the era, which meant records by the likes of Benis Cletin, Arakatula and Jimmy Sherry & The Musik Agents took influence from the American styles of the time but existed in a vacuum. The set follows another Nigerian comp Soul Jazz released earlier this year. That one—Nigeria Freedom Sounds!—focused on music from the early '60s. Tracklist 01. Joni Haastrup - Free My People 02.
