  • Dave Smith Instruments has introduced a new Eurorack module, the DSM03. According to Dave Smith, the new module is informed by the feedback circuit in the Evolver, Pro 2 and Prophet 12 synthesisers. They say: "The idea is that you have a tuned feedback loop that takes the audio output, runs it back through the filter, then through a delay line so you can perform Karplus-Strong synthesis—or just use it for mangling sounds." The feedback is controlled by Amount and Tuning parameters before running through a new digital, resonant low-pass filter, which apparently includes oversampling. A Trigger In and Attack and Decay envelopes can be used in conjunction with a noise source to create plucked, string-like sounds. Tuning, feedback amount, cut-off frequency and resonance are all voltage-controllable. The module also supports 24-bit, 96 kHz fidelity. The Dave Smith Instruments DSM03 is available now for $275.
