  • FKA Twigs has a released a documentary called Baltimore Dance Project, in partnership with WeTransfer. The 28-year-old singer and dancer sent out a tweet in July inviting anyone in Baltimore to join her and her choreographers for a free dance workshop. Nearly 400 dancers answered the call, and film director Nick Walker produced a short documentary about the five-hour class. Her intention with the film was to show a side of Baltimore that doesn't often make it into media portrayals, she said in a feature article accompanying the film. Shows like HBO's The Wire, along with much of the international news coverage this year, have focused on poverty, racism and violence. She also invited a group of dancers from the workshop to join her on stage at a concert the very same night. "When I was thinking about doing a dance project, the obvious places would be LA or New York," she said, "but I thought why not go to a place that obviously has so much soul and so much amazing energy? You’ll be able to connect with them rather than being another artist that is passing through." Watch the documentary via WeTransfer here.
