  • Denon DJ has a batch of new products on the way. In an attempt to challenge the ubiquity of Pioneer DJ products in the booth, the American manufacturer is releasing an entire suite of DJ gear under the name Prime, including the VL12 turntable, the X1800 mixer, the SC5000 media player and a music management system called Engine. The VL12 turntable has two torque settings, with its 5kgf/cm "High" setting the "highest in industry" according to Denon, along with custom isolation feet and an isolated motor design for a low signal-to-noise ratio. The pitch range comes in 8, 16 and 50% options while RBG lighting can be set to specific brightness and colour levels. It will retail for £650. The X1800 is a four-channel digital DJ mixer supporting 96kHz / 24-bit audio. In addition to a send and return for routing signals through external devices, effects are manipulated with dedicated BPM and Sweep controls and can be synced with Denon's media players. The three-band EQs can be switched between Classic and Isolation modes while a global filter has resonance control. Two USB connections allow integration with other DJ software and an on-board LAN hub means up to four media players can be used simultaneously. It will retail for £1500.
According to Denon, the SC5000 media player is the first media player to "analyze both beatgrid and musical key" on the unit itself. A seven-inch touch and gesture responsive display supports a "performance layer" with eight pads for creating cues, rolls, slices and loops. It supports all uncompressed media formats, including FLAC, and features "dual-layer playback with individual outputs." It will retail for £1500. Files on the SC5000 are managed by Engine, Denon's answer to rekordbox, which analyses tracks to lay beatgrids and find keys.
Denon DJ will release the VL12, X1800, SC5000 and Engine Prime in the first quarter of 2017. They will retail for £650, £1500 and £1500 respectively. Engine Prime will be free.
