  • Shawn Rudiman has just released the first in his new Synthdrome Vault Archives series. The long-time Pittsburgh producer has been releasing music since the late '90s, and is well-known for techno records like his 2008 album Machine Soul Terminal. His new endeavour is taken from DAT tapes recorded over the years (as seen in the album art at right), with the first spanning from 1999 to 2004. The tracks were recorded directly to tape from a Yamaha RM800 studio mixer. "These tracks somehow never made it to final releases," he says, "either forgotten, passed over or simply labeled as not as desirable for the particular label or release at the time. They have sat, waiting on DATs, drives or CDs to somehow have life. Now there is time. I offer them to you with a bit of sadness as if I'm seeing my teenage children leave for the university. That is what they are to me: my children." Listen to the whole thing via Bandcamp.
