Disquiet, commissioned by US artist Helios and his Unseen label, aims to support nonprofits like The Trevor Project and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
The series, which Kenniff curated together with his wife Hollie, will feature almost all exclusive and previously unreleased material, courtesy of ambient producers from around the US and beyond. Three volumes are planned for now, with a potential fourth instalment currently being considered, and 100% of profits from the project will be donated to nonprofit organizations supporting "the environment, investigative journalism, women and minorities"—such as The Trevor Project, the National Network for Immigrant And Refugee Rights, ProPublica and the Natural Resources Defense Council.
Disquiet Vol. 1, due out next Friday the 17th, comprises 11 tracks from the likes of Synkro, Eluvium, Benoît Pioulard, Windy & Carl, The Album Leaf and Kenniff himself, as Helios. Contributors to subsequent sets include Ryuichi Sakamoto, Julianna Barwick, Mary Lattimore, Ólafur Arnalds & Nils Frahm, Loscil Rafael Anton Irisarri and the Kenniffs' Mint Julep collaboration, along with Taylor Deupree, who's also mastering each compilation, and Raum, AKA Liz Harris (Grouper) and Jefre Cantu-Ledesma. Canadian designer Seth Hardie is providing cover artwork.
Each volume will get a digital release at first, before versions for CD and wax come out later in the year via Western Vinyl.
