- The venue laid out plans for a revamped 6,000-capacity space at a community board meeting last week.
The Brooklyn Mirage has revealed a $47.2 million plan to reopen after being shut down last summer.
Cityfox promoter Billy Bildstein appeared before a local community board this month in an effort to secure a liquor license for the venue, DNAinfo reports. They presented a plan for a revamped 6,000-capacity space at 111 Gardner Avenue, and explained that they now have the support of 24 local politicians, community organizations and religious groups. The news comes about eight months after the original space was shut down by building inspectors due to structural and safety violations. It was the second time they were shut down in a span of only two weeks.
"I want to apologize to you, the community, about many things we could have done better," Bildstein said at the board meeting last week, where he urged members to support their liquor license application. "We made mistakes and we didn't do our homework right before we approached the board last year. I know we didn't make a very good impression last year, and we're here to show you the improvements."
City Councilman Antonio Reynoso, State Senator Martin Dilan and Assemblywoman Martiza Davila were among the politicians who spoke on their behalf at the meeting. "We've shut them down badly and you know what? That shows a lot when you go down and you come up and face this crowd," Davila explained.
Community Board 1, which is influential in deciding whether or not to grant liquor licenses in the area, will put the application to a vote on March 14th.
