  • Uganda's Nyege Nyege Festival will return to the Nile Discovery Beach in Jinja for its third edition, which runs from September 1st through 3rd. Nyege Nyege, which is run by a community-based organisation called Boutiq Foundation, is both a festival and a record label. (The label, Nyege Nyege Tapes, has so far put out music by Disco Vumbi, Riddlore? and Otim Alpha.) Organisers say the festival's aim is to develop the Ugandan music and arts scene, with a mix of local and international acts performing. Some international acts will arrive a month before the festival begins to collaborate with local musicians. Highlights of the lineup include Cameroonian singer Reniss (who will appear alongside the rapper Jovi), Ghanaian DJ/producer Gafacci and South African gqom artists Cruel Boyz. There will also be 13 troupes performing different types of traditional Ugandan music. European acts include Peter Power, DJ Spooky, Airhead, Ninos Du Brasil and Harmonious Thelonious. London-based radio station NTS will host a stage at the festival, with Moxie, A.G., Skinny Macho and Rhythm Section resident anu. Watch a video of highlights from Nyege Nyege Festival 2016.
