  • A Made Up Sound will headline Soft Centre, a new Western Sydney festival taking place on September 23rd. The single-day event will take place at Casula Powerhouse arts centre just south of Liverpool where the Dutch producer—who makes his long-awaited Australian debut—will be joined by more than a dozen domestic acts from both the musical and performance art spheres. Among them are interstate guests Louis McCoy AKA hndsm., Lawrence English and Waterhouse, as well as local artists Cassius Select, Hot Wavs, Ptwiggs and Half High who will play across two stages, one dedicated to "visceral noise experimentation." The team of organisers—Jemma Cole of insert, Thorsten Hertog of OKRA and Sam Whiteside of Voena—explain that "Sydney has long needed a festival that celebrates the extremities of electronic music," and that Soft Centre "takes inspiration from festivals such as Unsound, Berlin Atonal and Mutek, pairing experimental electronic artists with sensory altering light works and immersive performance pieces." A second lineup announcement will be released in early July, featuring a number of commissioned collaborations between musical and performance artists.
