  • Steinberg has revealed a new version of Cubase. Version 9.5 of the veteran DAW (the first edition came out in 1989) sports higher fidelity sound quality thanks to the introduction of 64-bit floating-point resolution. A file manager for previewing external samples comes with all three versions of the software, which are called Pro, Artist and Elements. A new metering section and Cubase's Control Room are now directly accessible on the right panel for Pro users. Automation has been improved with curved envelopes and a Range tool that streamlines the process of copying and pasting automation. The Pro and Artist versions now have double the insert slots, meaning users can place up to 16 VSTs on every audio track, while a new wavetable synthesiser library called FLUX comes with the Pro and Artist versions. MIDI clips can be directly dropped into a sampler, where they're instantly rendered in audio. The sampler also now has an A/B function for previewing the sound of different settings.
