  • A new electronic music education program in Amsterdam, the Amsterdam Electronic Music Academy, has announced plans to launch this September. AEMA is being developed by the Conservatorium van Amsterdam in collaboration with local education platform The School Of House. The two institutions were brought together by Duncan Stutterheim, the founder of the large-scale events promoter ID&T (which is behind festivals like Mysteryland and Tomorrowland). AEMA's two-year program will teach music theory, production technique and entrepreneurial skills to prepare participants for a career in electronic music. The academy will collaborate with "leading parties in the Dutch electronic music scene," like Armin Van Buuren's Armada Music label and the Massive Music agency, and host guest lectures from Joris Voorn, Tom Trago, Stutterheim and a range of other industry figures. Lessons will be taught at locations including the University's Conservatorium, the A'DAM Toren, Nachtlab Studios and Q-Factory. Among other requirements, candidates for admission must submit three of their own original tracks. Applications are being accepted until May 1st. The annual tuition fee is €10,995. Prospective participants can check out an AEMA Open Day, offering more information about the program, at Q-Factory the afternoon of Saturday, March 10th. Watch a promo video.
