The 2018 edition, called (Re)Subliminal, includes extended edits by crate-digging label boss Chee Shimizu.
(Re)Subliminal is a remastered version of the album that comes with two extended edits by Chee Shimizu (no relation), a respected music historian and record collector. Yasuaki Shimizu originally recorded Subliminal while living in Paris, and his website says it "directly channels the city's multi-cultural music scene."
The new edition follows the reissue of Shimizu's 1982 album Kakashi, as well as the 1983 Mariah LP Utakata No Hibi.
Japanism is an offshoot of HMV that Chee Shimizu—who recently featured on our Playing Favourites interview series—set up in 2016 to re-release obscure Japanese music.
