David Stubbs has written a new history of electronic music, Mars By 1980: The Story Of Electronic Music.
The 464-page book sees the English author covering pioneering avant-garde forms like Italian futurism and musique concrète as well as contemporary genres such as house and techno. The book seeks to explain electronic music's relationship to modern society and its rise from marginal concern to mainstream dominance. It's being published by Faber & Faber and is due out August 2nd.
Stubbs is best known for books like Future Days: Krautrock And The Building Of Modern Germany and Fear Of Music: Why People Get Rothko But Don't Get Stockhausen. He's also a regular contributor to The Wire and co-founded Monitor with fellow music writer Simon Reynolds.
