Rizzla is putting out their debut album, Adepta, on July 6th through Fade To Mind.
Connecticut-based Rizzla—a cofounder of the KUNQ collective—has been a member the Fade To Mind family for years, but they've only released one record on the label so far (the Iron Cages EP in 2015). The press release for Adepta says the LP's "rhythmic execution and tempo fluctuates wildly... drawing on a collage of samples designed to simultaneously welcome and disorient the listener." The text also states that the album was inspired by "the personal anxiety of losing one's self and culture with the exhilaration of liberating self-immolation."
Before moving to New York, where Rizzla became heavily involved in the experimental club scene, they studied music and history in Trinidad and "became obsessed with the sonics of counterculture and the musical language of resistance," which informs most of their work so far.
