- Inspired by Marina Abramović, and invoking his own childhood jazz training, the LP is out in August.
Djrum is releasing an album through R&S Records on August 17th.
Portrait Of Firewood was inspired by a tough 2017 for UK producer Felix Manuel, as well as a return to his childhood instrument, the piano. Manuel was trained as a jazz musician, and for the first time he eschews his sample-heavy approach in favour of his piano.
He says he tried to capture the "inherent melancholy in beauty in all it's impermanence and fragility," a notion that's partly inspired by the work of performance artist Marina Abramovic and her "deep understanding of the human condition." (Portrait With Firewood also takes its title from one of her works.) The LP also features field recordings, experimental piano techniques and Manuel's first-ever hardware synth, along with cello from Zosia Jagodzinska and vocals by Lola Empire.
