  • Nile Rodgers has been elected chairman of the Songwriters Hall Of Fame. Rodgers, the legendary disco guitarist, producer and Chic co-founder who earned a spot in the Songwriters Hall Of Fame in 2016, will serve a three-year term as its chairman, working as a voice for the songwriting community. He was elected by unanimous vote. The Songwriters Hall Of Fame was established in 1969. It celebrates the legacy of great songwriters, with a roster that now numbers around 400 inductees, while also supporting the development of new talent through outreach programs, workshops and scholarships. Rodgers is also a Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame inductee, having been awarded that honor last year. Last month, further details emerged of a new Chic album, It's About Time, the group's first LP since 1992. Their hit 1978 song "Le Freak" was recently added to the US Library Of Congress's National Recording Registry, which houses recordings deemed significant to the country's audio heritage.
